The friction arrived in late 2023, when the free tier gained a daily cap on expenses — hit it mid-dinner and the app asks you to wait until tomorrow, have a friend add the expense, or upgrade to Pro (about $40/year, varying by region).
Deudin starts from a different premise: the math of splitting expenses shouldn't be metered. Recording an expense, splitting it, simplifying debts, seeing where the money went — all free, no ads. Open the group → group settings → "Export as spreadsheet". You'll get a CSV with every expense and balance.

Yes. Per-currency balances after import match Splitwise's totals to the cent. If they ever didn't, that would be a bug.

Do my friends need to create accounts?+
No. Add them by name and they count in every split and balance. Anyone can claim their spot later with an invite link.
What does Splitwise have that Deudin doesn't?+
Receipt scanning with OCR, itemized bill splitting, currency conversion, Venmo/PayPal integration in the US, and native App Store apps. If those are essential to you, Splitwise Pro is the honest recommendation.
Can I get my data back out of Deudin?+
You keep your original Splitwise CSV, and an export from Deudin is on our roadmap — but today there is no export button yet. We'd rather tell you that here than have you find out later.
